The honest take
Park Hyatt New York comes in at $1,590 a night with a 9.2 rating from 277 reviews, and it has the spa, pool, hot tub and pet allowance the St. Regis lacks. The St. Regis is $1,556, rated 8.8 from 257 reviews, and trades the wellness facilities for two restaurants, 24-hour butler service and valet parking. They sit 0.6km apart, both a short walk to Central Park and Fifth Avenue. Book the Park Hyatt if you want to swim and unwind; book the St. Regis if you want to be looked after and dressed up.
The look and the feel
Park Hyatt New York
The current Park Hyatt, opened in 2010 in a Christian de Portzamparc tower on West 57th Street, is a study in cool glass and pale stone rather than gilt. The lobby runs on natural light through floor-to-ceiling windows, with a commissioned art collection and a bar, The Back Room, done in warm wood and leather. Rooms are large by Manhattan standards, done in soft neutrals with big soaking tubs, aimed at people who want quiet, contemporary luxury without much fuss. It draws business travellers, art-world types and anyone who wants a spa and pool without leaving the building.
Best for guests who want a pool, spa and pet-friendly stay in a calmer, more contemporary setting.
The St. Regis New York
The St. Regis, opened in 1904 by John Jacob Astor IV, is Beaux-Arts through and through: mansard roof, marble lobby, gilded mouldings, and the King Cole Bar with its Maxfield Parrish mural behind the counter. Butler service on every floor is a holdover from the building's original conceit of an apartment hotel for the very rich, and the public rooms still have that hushed, old-money formality, chandeliers and velvet banquettes rather than glass and steel. It suits guests who want theatre and ceremony with their stay, not minimalism.
Best for guests who want the ritual of butler service and classic Beaux-Arts grandeur, and don't mind skipping the pool.
The St. Regis, at a nearly identical price, gives up the spa, indoor pool, hot tub and pet allowance the Park Hyatt offers.
The St. Regis is the more beautiful room to stand in, all marble and gilt and the Parrish mural, where the Park Hyatt is handsomer in a quieter, more restrained register.

Our one-night stay at Park Hyatt New York on July 10, 2026, was the perfect start to a once-in-a-lifetime family trip celebrating a milestone birthday for our son. From New York, we would continue on to Germany, Austria, Jordan, and Egypt, and we wanted the first hotel of the journey to be special. Park Hyatt New York exceeded our expectations in nearly every way.

“Excellent stay and will return”
Excellent visit to the Park Hyatt. This was a new hotel for and we will be returning. The hotel was clean and had a newer feeling. Hallways and doorways were clean and inviting.

“A true example of excellent service recovery!”
As a loyal World of Hyatt Globalist member, I have always regarded Park Hyatt as one of my favorite luxury hotel brands, which is why I had very high expectations for my stay at Park Hyatt New York.
Unfortunately, my stay did not begin as expected. After returning to the hotel in the afternoon, I discovered that my original room had an extremely strong chemical odor, making it uncomfortable to stay inside. After spe

“Fantastic Food and Exceptional Service”
We had a wonderful lunch at The St. Regis New York on 28th July, and the whole experience was exceptional from start to finish.
I visited with my friend and her toddler, and the food was absolutely delicious. What really made our lunch so memorable, though, was the incredible service. Every member of staff was warm and welcoming, and they went out of their way to make my friend’s child feel so special.

“It is a 4 star hotel, at the most”
First, forget about the butler experience. It does not exist. We called them and they never came. The building, despite a recent renovation, is old and in poor condition. The service is indifferent. Our room was only available at 6 pm despite a pre-planned 2 pm arrival. Bathroom does not have a rain shower and bath products are from different brands, most of them unknown, no consistency. There is no liquid soap in th
