The honest take

Book the Ritz-Carlton Central Park unless money is genuinely no object: at $1,418 a night against $2,874, it sits directly on the park with the same five stars and a stronger guest rating base of 285 reviews to the Four Seasons' 77. The Four Seasons costs roughly double for a Billionaire's Row address one block off the park itself, with no listed facility the Ritz-Carlton lacks. Both are excellent midtown hotels; the price gap is the real story here, not the product.

The look and the feel

Four Seasons Hotel New York

I.M. Pei designed this tower, and it shows in the lobby's severe geometry: 33-foot ceilings, a curved travertine staircase, and light pouring through walls of glass onto pale limestone. The rooms are among the largest in New York, with deep soaking tubs and a sense of engineered calm rather than period fussiness. It draws a corporate and old-money crowd who want scale and quiet efficiency over intimacy, on a stretch of 57th Street lined with private banks and flagship boutiques.

Best for guests who want the biggest rooms and the most architecturally serious lobby in the neighbourhood and are prepared to pay for it.

The Ritz-Carlton New York, Central Park

This is the townhouse register of the Ritz-Carlton brand: darker wood panelling, tasseled drapery, a doorman culture that leans traditional rather than minimalist. Rooms facing the park get a wall of green that changes with the seasons, and the whole building trades on that view more than on architectural drama. The crowd is a mix of Broadway tourists trading up and businesspeople who want the park-front address without Billionaire's Row pricing.

Best for guests who want a genuine Central Park view and traditional luxury service without the top-tier price tag.

Nothing on the facility lists separates them; the Ritz-Carlton gives up the extra distance from the park's edge and the Pei-designed scale of the Four Seasons' public rooms, not any named amenity.

The Four Seasons is the more architecturally serious building, all Pei-era glass and stone drama, but the Ritz-Carlton's actual park view is the more beautiful thing to wake up to.

“Do Not Stay Here - Horrible Service and Outdated Rooms”

I’ve been staying at this hotel consistently for over 20 years. Unfortunately, this hotel has gone downhill fast and cannot compete with other properties (e.g., Baccarat, Four Seasons). Over my last few stays, I’ve experienced many service lapses, but to name a few: -Club Lounge employee got upset at me and my children, and started talking poorly and bashing their management in front of my family. This all stemmed f

“Oddly Frustrating Stay”

Let's start with the positives: the RC Central Park is impeccably located. Can't do much better than 59th St at 6th Ave. The staff are well trained and courteous, even opening the doors in unison. The hotel feels exclusive and intimate; this is not The Plaza with tourists running around. However, there are problems. I booked one night at a club level room. At check-in the agent claimed I had not booked a club
