The honest take
At $964 vs $968 a night, this is effectively a wash on price, so decide on place. Faena has the stronger review record (9/10 across 633 reviews vs no score on 397) and a more theatrical, singular building. The St. Regis counters with golf access and a genuinely serious 14,000 sq ft spa. Nine kilometres apart, in different stretches of Collins Avenue, so pick by neighbourhood as much as by hotel.
The look and the feel
The St. Regis Bal Harbour Resort
The St. Regis sits in Bal Harbour, the quieter, more residential northern end of the beach, near the upscale shopping mall of the same name. Rooms were done by Yabu Pushelberg, so expect the firm's usual cool palette, clean lines and understated materials rather than anything flamboyant. The spa is the real set-piece here, 14,000 square feet with eleven treatment rooms, a steam room and Finnish saunas, which pulls a wellness-focused, older-money crowd who want quiet over spectacle. Public spaces read as polished and calm rather than dramatic, with the St Regis Bar and Wine Vault doing the evening work with live music and vintage bottles.
Guests who want a quieter northern-beach base, serious spa time, and access to golf.
Faena Miami Beach
Faena, further south in Miami Beach, is Alan Faena and designer Baz Dixon's collaboration with a maximalist streak: gold leaf, tropical murals, a preserved 1930s Art Deco shell wrapped around thoroughly modern interiors. Carrara marble bathrooms sit alongside the kind of theatrical touches this hotel is known for elsewhere in its group, and the restaurant line-up (Veranda, Pao, Los Fuegos) leans into spectacle as much as food, with Los Fuegos in particular built around open-fire cooking. It draws a younger, more fashion- and nightlife-oriented crowd than the St. Regis, and the whole place feels louder, warmer in colour, and less concerned with restraint.
Guests who want to be in the thick of South Beach's design and nightlife scene, with a hotel that performs as much as it houses.
On the facility list, the St. Regis is the one with something extra: golf access, which Faena's listing doesn't offer, so anyone wanting a round has to book north.
Faena is the more characterful place to actually stand in, its restored Deco bones and maximalist detailing giving it a personality the St. Regis's calmer, more corporate luxury doesn't try to match.

Emmanuel and Maryna at the beach provided amazing service. Emmanuel was so attentive for making sure we had the perfect beach setup. Maryna was hustling make sure everyone had enough food or drinks in 100 degree weather.

“Perfection”
My very favorite hotel. This was my second stay and it was somehow better than my first stay. The accommodations are perfect, the staff is beyond helpful, and the food is incredible.
The room- generally given a slight upgrade with Marriott status. They have the best pillows I've ever used. In fact, I bought a set for my home because I sleep like a baby whenever I stay at this hotel. The bed is also comfy- firm yet c

“Once again: the hotel guest is not treated as it should be.”
Location was good and the hotel has nice restaurants and decor.
The hotel guests are treated as it should be. For example to reserve a table at the bar there is minimum charge between 225 to 1,500 per person depending on the day of the week.
This is ridiculous.

“Obsessed & Speechless”
The Acts for Obsession at Faena Theatre were absolutely incredible. I recommend everyone to go and see it. Me and my friend had the most amazing time . Such a diverse range of talent. Sophia’s vocals and stage performance/presence, alongside all the beautiful range of acts of dancers/aerialists and violinist had everyone’s jaws on the floor! The bartenders really took great care and were very time efficient with ever
