The honest take

The Four Seasons at The Surf Club is $69 cheaper a night, rated higher (9.4 vs 9.1), and sits inside a genuine 1930s landmark rather than a design-hotel version of one. The Setai has the edge only on golf access, which is a marginal amenity for a beach stay. Both are five-star Miami Beach addresses at essentially the same price point, so this comes down to building and address: South Beach's Art Deco core versus the quieter, wealthier stretch north near Surfside. Book the Surf Club unless you specifically want to be walking distance from Ocean Drive nightlife.

The look and the feel

The Setai

The Setai occupies a 1930s Art Deco building at the southern tip of Collins Avenue, extended with a taller tower behind it, and the interiors go a different direction entirely: dark wood, black granite, low lighting, an Asian-colonial mood assembled by Jaya Ibrahim rather than anything Deco. The three tiered infinity pools stepping toward the ocean are the signature image, lit at night in bronze and teal. It draws a South Beach crowd, models and finance and a fair number of Europeans, and the lobby bar fills late with people who came to be seen as much as to drink.

Guests who want to be inside the Art Deco district and near South Beach's nightlife and street energy.

Four Seasons Hotel at The Surf Club

The Surf Club is the real 1930s article, designed originally by Russell Pancoast and restored with Richard Meier adding a glass-and-white residential tower behind the historic clubhouse, with interiors by Joseph Dirand: pale terrazzo, cream linen, brass fittings, a restraint that reads as old-money rather than nightclub. Le Sirenuse Miami brings striped umbrellas and Amalfi colour to the pool deck, and the whole property feels institutional in the best sense, like a private club that happens to take guests, set apart from the Ocean Drive strip further north on a quieter stretch of Collins.

Guests who want a quieter, more architecturally serious stay with beach club calm rather than scene.

The Setai's only listed edge is golf access, a minor amenity for a beachfront trip; otherwise the two match on pools, spa, dining and fitness.

The Surf Club is the more beautiful building to actually be in: it is the real 1930s structure with Richard Meier and Joseph Dirand's restraint, against The Setai's competent but more theatrical reinterpretation of a similar era.

“Lovely hotel but construction noise awful”

Lovely hotel. Well located. Pool area very nice. Room also very nice.

Major construction next to the hotel so very noisy from 6am. Major problem for anyone on a holiday. Hotel did compensate us but we wish they and booking.com had told us before we went so we could make an informed choice. Was too late once we arrived.

“Above & Beyond - We Can’t Wait to Return!”

Our stay at Four Seasons Hotel at The Surf Club exceeded every expectation and was truly one of the most memorable hotel experiences we’ve ever had. From the moment we arrived, every member of the team made us feel genuinely welcomed and cared for. The level of service was exceptional - not because it felt scripted, but because every interaction felt personal, thoughtful, and sincere. Whether we were at the pool, di

“Fantastic stay, resort, and service”

We had an outstanding stay at the Four Seasons Hotel at The Surf Club with our son. The service was excellent from start to finish — from the initial valet greeting all the way through departure and checkout. Even measured against the typically very high Four Seasons standards, the team here operates at the highest level. Everything felt smooth, attentive, and genuinely well-executed. The pool setup is terrific. We

“Only spot to stay in Miami with 5 star service”

This is our 2nd time at Surfside. We love the location as it is away from the fray of South Beach and has all the elegance and level of service one hopes at a Four Seasons. It is a beautiful hotel with gorgeous common areas. Multiple pools and spots to eat through out the day. If you plan to eat at the adjoining restaurant Surf Club make a reservation. They are not part of the Four Seasons in that you can expect a
