At $1,472 versus $364 a night, the Setai costs roughly four times as much for a smaller, more exclusive property, and that price has to be doing a lot of work. Nobu, at $364, has more reviews, four pools, a fitness centre with personal trainers, and Nobu's own kitchen behind it, which for most travellers covers everything a beach stay in Miami needs. The Setai's edge is genuinely a golf facility Nobu lacks and a higher guest rating from a much smaller review base, which reads as a quieter, more curated hotel rather than a fundamentally superior one. Book Nobu unless the point of the trip is the Setai itself.
The Setai occupies a restored 1930s Art Deco building on Collins Avenue with a low-slung modern tower behind it, and the interiors lean deliberately away from Deco pastel into something darker and more Asian in register: teak, black granite, still water, screens, a palette closer to a Kyoto ryokan than a South Beach hotel. The three infinity pools step down toward the ocean in a line, lit at night so the water reads as black glass, and the courtyard bar is low light and low voices rather than a scene. It draws guests who want Miami without the noise of Miami.
Guests who want a quiet, design-led, adults-oriented escape and are willing to pay a large premium for scale and calm.
Nobu Hotel Miami Beach sits inside the old Cavalier building, given a full renovation with Nobu's house style layered on: warm wood, natural stone, a lot of glass toward the Atlantic, and guestrooms fitted with 60-inch TVs and Nespresso machines rather than any particular design flourish. The energy here is younger and busier, built around the restaurant and its Chef Nobu name recognition more than architectural mood, with four pools and a fitness centre with trainers giving it the feel of a resort built for activity rather than retreat.
Travellers who want a lively beachfront resort with strong dining and full facilities at a fraction of the price.
Nobu's guests give up the golf facility on offer at the Setai, and more broadly trade the Setai's smaller scale, three infinity pools and quieter Asian-inspired interiors for a busier, more crowd-pleasing resort atmosphere.
The Setai is the more beautiful place to sit still in, with its dark wood, black-water pools and restrained Deco-meets-Asia interiors doing more with materials and light than Nobu's warmer but more generic resort styling.

The Setai's guests give more detail and mostly praise the service, though some hit construction noise or dodgy issues; Nobu's reviews are too sparse to judge but skew positive with one low outlier.

“Lovely hotel but construction noise awful”
Lovely hotel. Well located. Pool area very nice. Room also very nice.
Major construction next to the hotel so very noisy from 6am. Major problem for anyone on a holiday. Hotel did compensate us but we wish they and booking.com had told us before we went so we could make an informed choice. Was too late once we arrived.
Excelente service and staff . Fantastic hotel
