“Wonderful relaxing stay with great service”
Excellent location. Spacious room
The second bathroom was so big they could have put a shower in it instead of just a toilet. Also the basin the second bathroom was extremely tiny

Book the Okura if the budget is the deciding factor: it's $139 cheaper a night, rated higher by guests, and holds Ciel Bleu, a Michelin-starred restaurant, plus a proper spa. Book The Grand Amsterdam if you want to be inside Amsterdam's old city, in a building with real institutional history, and are happy to pay for that address. Both are 5-star and both score well; the difference is neighbourhood and design era more than quality.
The Grand occupies a former city hall and Admiralty building dating to the 15th century, with a stately Dutch facade on the Oudezijds Voorburgwal canal. Pierre-Yves Rochon's interiors mix French decorative flourish with the original beams, tiled floors and leaded windows, so the public rooms feel layered: a Dutch civic body under a French couture skin. The Bridges restaurant sits under a coffered ceiling with a raw bar, and there's a walled garden and terrace tucked behind the stone. It's the kind of hotel where the history is structural, not decorative, and it draws guests who want to feel the weight of the building around them.
Right for travellers who want to be immersed in old Amsterdam, in a historic building, walking distance from the canals and centre.
The Okura is a 1970s tower on the Amstel, a very different proposition: clean modernist lines, a lot of glass and quiet, formal Japanese-influenced hospitality inside a Western high-rise frame. Ciel Bleu, up on the 23rd floor, gives wide views over the city rather than street-level history, and the spa and indoor pool are built for actual use rather than atmosphere. The lobby is calm, low-key, more about service and light than architectural drama. It suits people who want polish and privacy over period charm.
Right for travellers who prioritise a top-tier restaurant, spa facilities, and quiet efficient service over a central historic setting.
Both hotels have the same facilities on the shared list; the only named gaps at Okura are pet-friendliness and golf, neither of which affects the core stay, so the real trade-off is address and architecture, not amenities.
The Grand is the more beautiful and characterful place to simply be in, because its rooms carry four centuries of use rather than a single decade's design language.

“Center of everything. You can walk to all of the places, no need taxi”
“It has amazingly comfy beds and a fantastic spa and michelin star restaurants.”
Okura's guests come away happier, as review after review singles out staff by name for exceptional, effortless service, while The Grand's praise is real but tempered by small bathroom and breakfast-service gripes.

“Except for Diego the disagreable waiter the rest was excellent”
I like the location the building the special amability of nearly all the staff and the restaurants
The bathroom having the toilette with no place to wash your hands and having to cross the shower to do so or step outside and enter again, and the step to go to the toilet for me is dangerous. A special mention of one waiter in the breakfast we had on the first morning. My husband was asking for his coffee with hot mi

“It was A M A Z I N G”
The service provided to us was extra ordinary. Started with warm welcome from Ashraf at the door to lovely check in by Aicha and Ezra. Were very attentive. Same for check out with Rochanie. Big thanks also to Roxana who prepared the room perfectly. If you seek feeling cared for and at home - this is the place to stay!
“Luxury service at the highest level”
Great care is given to all guests. When I arrived the front desk checked me in immediately and when I requested help with a dinner reservation pre-arrival they arranged a spot for me at the Yamazato Restaurant, a Michelin 1 star. While it was listed as full they double checked the waitlist and found a cancellation that evening. Amazing service, the 23rd floor bar staff was fabulous. The restaurant was top marks. W
