Book takes you to the exact room at that rate on HotelDupe's booking partner. Confirmation arrives by email; manage or cancel any time from Find your booking.
Park Hyatt Kyoto is $1,708 a night, Six Senses Kyoto is $1,009 - a gap of nearly $700 for a rating that actually favours the cheaper property (9.7 vs 9.0, though on fewer reviews than the Hyatt's). Park Hyatt has parking and a hot tub that Six Senses lacks; Six Senses answers back with an indoor pool and pet-friendliness. Both sit in Higashiyama, 1.1 km apart, so location is a wash. Book Six Senses if budget matters and you want wellness facilities; book Park Hyatt if you want the more considered, quietly luxurious room and don't mind paying for it.
Park Hyatt Kyoto
Park Hyatt Kyoto occupies the old Kyoto Kaikan site in Higashiyama, redesigned by Tadao Ando's frequent collaborators with interiors that lean into shoji-inspired screens, dark timber, and washi paper light fittings. Rooms look toward the wooded hills and temple roofs of the Higashiyama ridge, and the whole property is built low and unassuming so as not to compete with the neighbourhood's temples. The lobby is hushed, stone-floored, more ryokan than international chain, and the restaurant leans on kaiseki service and seasonal produce. It draws an older, quieter guest who wants restraint rather than spectacle.
Design-minded travellers and couples who want a quiet, craft-focused Kyoto stay and don't mind paying top rate for it.
Six Senses Kyoto
Six Senses Kyoto is the brand's first Japan property, built new rather than converted, with the group's usual emphasis on wellness: an indoor pool, sauna, and a spa program alongside the fitness centre. The listing describes air-conditioned rooms with city views rather than garden or temple outlook, and the public description is heavier on amenity than atmosphere - concierge, kids' club, room service - the language of a well-run resort rather than a storied ryokan. It reads as a hotel built for comfort and family use as much as for architectural pilgrimage.
Families or wellness travellers who want a pool, spa facilities, and a kids' club at a lower nightly rate.
Six Senses saves you roughly $700 a night but gives up private parking and a hot tub that Park Hyatt offers, so arriving guests with a car or wanting in-room soaking facilities will feel the difference.
Park Hyatt Kyoto is the more beautiful place to actually sit in - its restraint, timber, and temple-facing quiet are the point, where Six Senses reads as competent rather than memorable.

“Leaving Japan on a high note!”
Park Hyatt is a great gem in the Gion district. Situated in a charming and picturesque area it was a wonderful stay for the last leg of our Japan visit. It is a bit farther from the main parts of Kyoto where restaurants were open later for dinner, but everything was a quick cab ride away. For lunch there are some great hidden restaurants to explore which were walkable from the hotel. There were also some great cultur
