The honest take

Palace Hotel Tokyo is cheaper at $1,349 versus $2,060, rated higher by guests (9.6 vs 9.4), and comes with seven restaurants against Four Seasons' single dining room. Four Seasons Otemachi answers with an indoor pool, sauna and hot tub the Palace doesn't list, plus breakfast included where Palace apparently charges extra. For most travellers the Palace's price, rating and culinary range make it the easier booking; choose Four Seasons if a proper wellness floor matters more to you than dinner options.

The look and the feel

Four Seasons Hotel Tokyo at Otemachi

Four Seasons Otemachi sits high in the Otemachi Tower, a glass-skinned tower finished in 2020, and the design leans into calm rather than spectacle: pale stone, timber screens, long views over the Imperial Palace moat and gardens from the upper-floor rooms. The public spaces are quiet and uncluttered, more residential than palatial, with the kind of restraint that reads as confidence rather than austerity. The garden views mentioned in select rooms are a genuine draw here, greenery against the grey of the financial district below. It suits guests who want five-star quiet over five-star spectacle.

Guests who want a quiet, design-led stay with a proper indoor pool, sauna and hot tub as part of the daily rhythm.

Palace Hotel Tokyo

Palace Hotel Tokyo occupies its own building directly across from the Imperial Palace moat in Marunouchi, rebuilt in 2012 but carrying the manner of the original 1961 hotel, all warm woods, lacquer accents and a lobby that still functions as a proper meeting point for Tokyo's business and diplomatic set. Seven restaurants spread through the building give it the feel of a small self-contained district rather than a single hotel floor, Japanese, French and international kitchens each with their own room and mood. The Marunouchi address puts you among banks and old money rather than the newer Otemachi towers, a short walk but a different register.

Guests who want variety at dinner, a livelier lobby scene and a lower nightly rate without giving up five-star service.

Booking the cheaper Palace Hotel Tokyo means giving up the indoor pool, sauna and hot tub that come with Four Seasons Otemachi, and possibly paying separately for breakfast.

Palace Hotel Tokyo is the more characterful room to sit in, with its moat-facing lobby and seven distinct restaurants giving it a sense of occasion that the calmer, tower-set Four Seasons doesn't try for.

“A Disappointing Stay That Made Us Reconsider Four Seasons”

Polished Courtesy, but Inconsistent Hospitality Our family stayed at Four Seasons Hotel Tokyo at Otemachi for seven nights. We booked a suite for ourselves and a separate room for my mother, so this was a substantial family stay and gave us enough time to experience the hotel well beyond a brief first impression. Unfortunately, our experience was deeply mixed. While the staff were consistently polite on the surface,

“Vacation”

We had a wonderful stay at Four Seasons Hotel Tokyo at Otemachi. What stood out to me the most was the level of care and support from the hotel team. They went out of their way to help me with an important situation during my trip and continued assisting me even after I had already left Japan. I especially appreciate the time and effort the team put into helping me resolve everything. They certainly did not have to
