The honest take

Book the Four Seasons at The Surf Club if the 1930s architecture and Le Sirenuse are the point of the trip; it rates higher (9.4 vs unrated, though B has far more reviews) and sits at $1,404 a night. The St. Regis Bal Harbour is $436 cheaper, adds a hot tub and golf, and has a 14,000 sq ft spa with Yabu Pushelberg interiors. They're 1.2km apart on the same stretch of Collins Ave, so the choice is really about architecture and price rather than location. For most travellers wanting the better room for the money, the St. Regis is the sounder book; for those chasing the Surf Club's history and design, it's worth the premium.

The look and the feel

Four Seasons Hotel at The Surf Club

The Surf Club dates to 1930, one of Miami Beach's grand old beach clubs, restored and expanded by Richard Meier with interiors that keep the period bones intact rather than erasing them: arched cabanas, a barrel-vaulted lobby, dark wood and marble against tropical light. Le Sirenuse brings an Amalfi Coast dining room into that setting, all lemon and white linen, and the Champagne Bar leans into old Florida glamour rather than contemporary hotel gloss. Floor-to-ceiling windows and custom furnishings in the rooms keep the ocean present without shouting about it. It draws a crowd that wants history and quiet polish over spectacle.

Guests who want architectural pedigree, a smaller, quieter property, and a genuine sense of 1930s Miami Beach history.

The St. Regis Bal Harbour Resort

The St. Regis Bal Harbour is a newer build with interiors by Yabu Pushelberg, so the mood is sleeker and more contemporary than the Surf Club's period restraint: clean lines, neutral palettes, flat-screen TVs and balconies angled at the Atlantic. The 14,000 sq ft spa with eleven treatment rooms and Finnish saunas is a serious wellness operation rather than an afterthought. Atlantikós for Mediterranean food and BH Burger Bar for something looser cover both ends of the evening, and the St Regis Bar with live music and a wine vault gives it a proper nightcap scene. It suits guests who want resort scale and modern comfort over historic character.

Guests who want resort amenities like a hot tub, golf access and a large spa, at a lower nightly rate.

At $968 versus $1,404, the St. Regis gives up nothing on paper that the Surf Club has exclusively, but it's the Surf Club that offers the hot tub and golf per the listed facilities gap running the other way, meaning the cheaper Surf Club actually holds those two amenities over the pricier St. Regis.

The Surf Club is the more beautiful place to be, because its 1930s bones and Richard Meier restoration give it a sense of place and history the St. Regis's polished contemporary interiors don't try to match.

“Above & Beyond - We Can’t Wait to Return!”

Our stay at Four Seasons Hotel at The Surf Club exceeded every expectation and was truly one of the most memorable hotel experiences we’ve ever had. From the moment we arrived, every member of the team made us feel genuinely welcomed and cared for. The level of service was exceptional - not because it felt scripted, but because every interaction felt personal, thoughtful, and sincere. Whether we were at the pool, di

“Fantastic stay, resort, and service”

We had an outstanding stay at the Four Seasons Hotel at The Surf Club with our son. The service was excellent from start to finish — from the initial valet greeting all the way through departure and checkout. Even measured against the typically very high Four Seasons standards, the team here operates at the highest level. Everything felt smooth, attentive, and genuinely well-executed. The pool setup is terrific. We

“Only spot to stay in Miami with 5 star service”

This is our 2nd time at Surfside. We love the location as it is away from the fray of South Beach and has all the elegance and level of service one hopes at a Four Seasons. It is a beautiful hotel with gorgeous common areas. Multiple pools and spots to eat through out the day. If you plan to eat at the adjoining restaurant Surf Club make a reservation. They are not part of the Four Seasons in that you can expect a

“Perfection”

My very favorite hotel. This was my second stay and it was somehow better than my first stay. The accommodations are perfect, the staff is beyond helpful, and the food is incredible. The room- generally given a slight upgrade with Marriott status. They have the best pillows I've ever used. In fact, I bought a set for my home because I sleep like a baby whenever I stay at this hotel. The bed is also comfy- firm yet c
