The honest take

The Surf Club rates higher (9.4 vs 8.6) and delivers a genuinely rare architectural experience, but at $1,404 a night it costs three times the Ritz-Carlton South Beach's $462. Both sit in Miami Beach, 9.7km apart, and both are five-star with spa, pool and fitness facilities. Unless the Surf Club's history and pedigree design matter specifically to you, the Ritz gives comparable comfort and service for a fraction of the price. Book the Surf Club for the occasion; book the Ritz for the value.

The look and the feel

Four Seasons Hotel at The Surf Club

The Surf Club dates to 1930, designed by Russell Pancoast, and the restoration (with Richard Meier's later towers alongside the original clubhouse) kept the bones of old-money Miami intact: barrel-tile roofs, wrought iron, a beach cabana row that looks unchanged since the Rat Pack era. Le Sirenuse Miami brings an Amalfi-coast dining room in cheerful blue and white tile, and the Champagne Bar has the hush of a place where people dress for dinner. Rooms lean toward custom furnishings and marble bathrooms with floor-to-ceiling glass onto the Atlantic. It draws an older, moneyed, unhurried crowd who remember the Surf Club before it was a hotel.

Guests who want a slice of old Miami glamour, a private beach club atmosphere, and are willing to pay for it.

The Ritz-Carlton, South Beach

The Ritz-Carlton on Lincoln Road occupies a Morris Lapidus-era Art Deco building, all curved lines and nautical white-and-navy detailing typical of MiMo Miami Beach. The lobby and public rooms have been kept glossy and current rather than preserved as a period piece, with a spa tub, sauna, and pool deck built for a younger, more transactional Miami Beach visitor. It sits steps from the shops and restaurants of Lincoln Road, so the energy outside the door is retail and street life rather than private beach club hush.

Travellers who want reliable five-star comfort, a walkable South Beach location, and a much lower nightly rate.

The Ritz-Carlton lacks nothing on the facility list except pet-friendliness, so the gap between the two is really about scale, pedigree and the intangible weight of the Surf Club's 1930s history and address, not amenities.

The Surf Club is the more beautiful place to be, simply because its 1930s beach-club architecture and restoration have a specificity and warmth that the Ritz's competent Deco-revival lobby can't match.

“Above & Beyond - We Can’t Wait to Return!”

Our stay at Four Seasons Hotel at The Surf Club exceeded every expectation and was truly one of the most memorable hotel experiences we’ve ever had. From the moment we arrived, every member of the team made us feel genuinely welcomed and cared for. The level of service was exceptional - not because it felt scripted, but because every interaction felt personal, thoughtful, and sincere. Whether we were at the pool, di

“Fantastic stay, resort, and service”

We had an outstanding stay at the Four Seasons Hotel at The Surf Club with our son. The service was excellent from start to finish — from the initial valet greeting all the way through departure and checkout. Even measured against the typically very high Four Seasons standards, the team here operates at the highest level. Everything felt smooth, attentive, and genuinely well-executed. The pool setup is terrific. We

“Only spot to stay in Miami with 5 star service”

This is our 2nd time at Surfside. We love the location as it is away from the fray of South Beach and has all the elegance and level of service one hopes at a Four Seasons. It is a beautiful hotel with gorgeous common areas. Multiple pools and spots to eat through out the day. If you plan to eat at the adjoining restaurant Surf Club make a reservation.
