The honest take

The Surf Club at $1,404 a night is the finer building and the finer stay, restored 1930s architecture with a 9.4 guest rating from a small, satisfied pool of reviewers. Nobu Miami Beach at $364 has the numbers of a busy, well-liked hotel (8.0 from over a thousand reviews) and a hot tub the Surf Club doesn't list, but it's a different tier of place. If budget rules, Nobu is a legitimate five-star beach hotel for a quarter of the price; if the building itself matters, the Surf Club is worth the difference.

The look and the feel

Four Seasons Hotel at The Surf Club

The Surf Club is a 1930s Miami Beach landmark, originally a private social club, restored and expanded by Richard Meier with interiors by Joseph Dirand — all white travertine, brass detailing and long shaded arcades that frame the ocean rather than shout about it. The lobby and pool deck have the hush of old-money Florida: cabanas in muted stripes, a champagne bar with marble tops, Le Sirenuse's Amalfi-blue dining room spilling out toward the sea. Rooms carry that same restraint, custom furniture, marble baths, floor-to-ceiling glass onto the Atlantic. It draws an older, quieter, moneyed crowd who came for the architecture as much as the beach.

Guests who want architecture and hush as much as the beach, and don't mind paying for both.

Nobu Hotel Miami Beach

Nobu Miami Beach sits inside the old Eden Roc tower on Collins Avenue, a mid-century high-rise given a glossy Japanese-inflected refit, dark wood furniture, oversized flat-screens, Natura Bissé toiletries in the bathrooms. The public areas lean toward the brand's usual polish rather than any singular design statement, four pools, Ocean Social for casual all-day eating, Nobu Matsuhisa's fusion menu for the main event. It's a livelier, younger, more transactional kind of five-star, full of guests on a Miami weekend rather than a considered stay.

Guests who want reliable five-star comfort, pools and a famous restaurant at a fraction of the price.

Nobu lacks nothing dramatic on the facility list against the Surf Club and even lists a hot tub the Surf Club doesn't; what it gives up is scale of design ambition, the sense of staying inside a restored landmark rather than a well-run tower, and the quieter, more curated crowd that comes with it.

The Surf Club is the more beautiful place to actually be, Meier's restraint and Dirand's detailing turn a walk to the pool into something worth remembering, where Nobu is comfortable but forgettable by comparison.

“Above & Beyond - We Can’t Wait to Return!”

Our stay at Four Seasons Hotel at The Surf Club exceeded every expectation and was truly one of the most memorable hotel experiences we’ve ever had. From the moment we arrived, every member of the team made us feel genuinely welcomed and cared for. The level of service was exceptional - not because it felt scripted, but because every interaction felt personal, thoughtful, and sincere. Whether we were at the pool, di

“Fantastic stay, resort, and service”

We had an outstanding stay at the Four Seasons Hotel at The Surf Club with our son. The service was excellent from start to finish — from the initial valet greeting all the way through departure and checkout. Even measured against the typically very high Four Seasons standards, the team here operates at the highest level. Everything felt smooth, attentive, and genuinely well-executed. The pool setup is terrific. We

“Only spot to stay in Miami with 5 star service”

This is our 2nd time at Surfside. We love the location as it is away from the fray of South Beach and has all the elegance and level of service one hopes at a Four Seasons. It is a beautiful hotel with gorgeous common areas. Multiple pools and spots to eat through out the day. If you plan to eat at the adjoining restaurant Surf Club make a reservation. They are not part of the Four Seasons in that you can expect a
