The honest take
The Surf Club at $1,404 a night is the higher-rated, quieter, more architecturally serious choice, with the better restaurant pedigree and a genuine sense of restrained 1930s glamour. Faena, at $964, is cheaper, has more reviews behind its 9.0 score, and adds a hot tub the Surf Club doesn't list. Both sit on Collins Avenue but 7.8km apart, effectively different Miami Beach postcodes - the Surf Club in the hushed northern end near Bal Harbour, Faena in the middle of Mid-Beach's louder scene. Book the Surf Club for design and calm, Faena for spectacle and value.
The look and the feel
Four Seasons Hotel at The Surf Club
The Surf Club occupies the restored 1930s Surf Club building, with the original clubhouse's Mediterranean Revival bones - arched loggias, coral stone, a long central lawn running to the sand - wrapped in new Richard Meier-designed towers. Champagne Bar sits in dark wood and brass under low light, a deliberate throwback to the club's old-money origins, and the pool deck retains its checkerboard-tiled cabanas from the original era. Rooms lean pale and quiet: marble bathrooms, floor-to-ceiling glass, custom furniture in muted tones, everything pitched toward calm rather than spectacle. It draws an older, moneyed, low-key crowd who came for Le Sirenuse and the beach, not the scene.
Guests who want architectural pedigree, quiet luxury and an older-money atmosphere over spectacle.
Faena Miami Beach
Faena is Alan Faena and Baz Luhrmann's collaboration with designer Bastien Daguzan, and it looks like it - gold leaf, taxidermied mammoth in the lobby, murals, velvet, a maximalist Latin-baroque theatre built for photographs. Los Fuegos, the Francis Mallmann fire-pit restaurant, and Pao's Asian-Latin menu keep the energy loud and social, while the Tierra Santa Healing House spa and South American-inspired treatments pull the mood back down. Rooms are calmer than the public spaces, done in Carrara marble bathrooms and warm modern furnishings, but the building itself is the draw - a stage set rather than a retreat. It suits people who want to be seen and entertained, not tucked away.
Guests who want theatre, nightlife-adjacent energy and strong dining without the top-tier price tag.
Faena's lower rate doesn't cost it much on paper - it actually adds a hot tub the Surf Club lacks - so the real trade-off is scale of quiet, service intensity and the Surf Club's higher guest score built on far fewer, more curated reviews.
The Surf Club is the more beautiful building, restrained and historically grounded, where Faena is the more entertaining one, built entirely for spectacle rather than repose.

Our stay at Four Seasons Hotel at The Surf Club exceeded every expectation and was truly one of the most memorable hotel experiences we’ve ever had.
From the moment we arrived, every member of the team made us feel genuinely welcomed and cared for. The level of service was exceptional - not because it felt scripted, but because every interaction felt personal, thoughtful, and sincere. Whether we were at the pool, di

“Fantastic stay, resort, and service”
We had an outstanding stay at the Four Seasons Hotel at The Surf Club with our son. The service was excellent from start to finish — from the initial valet greeting all the way through departure and checkout. Even measured against the typically very high Four Seasons standards, the team here operates at the highest level. Everything felt smooth, attentive, and genuinely well-executed.
The pool setup is terrific. We

“Only spot to stay in Miami with 5 star service”
This is our 2nd time at Surfside. We love the location as it is away from the fray of South Beach and has all the elegance and level of service one hopes at a Four Seasons.
It is a beautiful hotel with gorgeous common areas. Multiple pools and spots to eat through out the day. If you plan to eat at the adjoining restaurant Surf Club make a reservation. They are not part of the Four Seasons in that you can expect a

“Once again: the hotel guest is not treated as it should be.”
Location was good and the hotel has nice restaurants and decor.
The hotel guests are treated as it should be. For example to reserve a table at the bar there is minimum charge between 225 to 1,500 per person depending on the day of the week.
This is ridiculous.

“Obsessed & Speechless”
The Acts for Obsession at Faena Theatre were absolutely incredible. I recommend everyone to go and see it. Me and my friend had the most amazing time . Such a diverse range of talent. Sophia’s vocals and stage performance/presence, alongside all the beautiful range of acts of dancers/aerialists and violinist had everyone’s jaws on the floor! The bartenders really took great care and were very time efficient with ever
