The honest take
Book the Sofitel Mexico City Reforma if you want the higher guest score, more reviews behind it, and a lower rate at $537 versus $695. The St. Regis justifies its premium with a hot tub the Sofitel lacks and the full butler-service package, but both sit on the same stretch of Paseo de la Reforma. If design and ceremony matter more than value, take the St. Regis; if you just want a very well-run five-star room near the Angel, the Sofitel does it for less.
The look and the feel
The St. Regis Mexico City
The St. Regis occupies a glass tower on Reforma with the brand's signature formality grafted onto a Mexican register: marble lobbies, dark wood panelling, chandeliers, and the ritual of a butler assigned to your floor. Public rooms lean towards hushed opulence, heavy fabrics, low lighting in the bar, the kind of space designed for a discreet business dinner or a wedding party spilling between two ballrooms. It reads as corporate luxury done with real polish rather than any particular architectural personality.
Guests who want the theatre of butler service, ballroom-scale events, and a hotel built to impress.
Sofitel Mexico City Reforma
The Sofitel sits a few doors down Reforma in a build that trades the St. Regis's weight for a lighter, more contemporary French-hotel gloss: flat-screen TVs, clean-lined seating areas, an indoor pool tucked away rather than paraded. The lobby and bar feel less ceremonial, more efficient, aimed at guests who want comfort and consistency over spectacle. It is Sofitel's usual formula: competent modern decor, good beds, nothing that announces itself.
Guests who want a highly rated, well-run five-star stay near the embassy and Reforma's sights without paying for ceremony.
At $537 the Sofitel gives up the hot tub the St. Regis offers, along with the St. Regis's signature butler service and heavier ballroom infrastructure; otherwise its facility list holds its own.
The St. Regis is the more theatrical, character-driven building to walk through, even if the Sofitel is arguably the smoother stay.

What a wonderful stay! We were upgraded to a beautiful suite room 1001. We also used their airport transportation and Roberto was excellent but so was the other driver. When we arrived the bellmen promptly assisted us with our luggage and we were checkin. We were excited to have seen the nice upgrade (am Ambassador) and they acknowledged my status. The whole stay was magical. The King Cole Bar is a wonderful space

“Treated Like Genuinely Welcomed Guests”
The St. Regis Mexico City is an outstanding hotel, and we can't recommend it highly enough. From the moment we arrived, we were treated like genuinely welcomed guests. That began at check-in, where the team took real care with our room selection, and it continued throughout our stay — there was always someone asking whether there was anything they could do to make our visit more enjoyable. That kind of consistent, at

“Impeccable rooms, perfect service”
The St Regis has the best service of any hotel in Mexico City. The rooms are impeccable, and the security is top notch. The terrace of the restaurant is lovely for a relaxed brunch any day (or every day) of the week. Special thanks to Iliana at the front desk for her outstanding hospitality and kindness.
