The honest take

Book the St. Regis if the Paseo de la Reforma address and butler service matter to you and $848 a night is comfortable; book the JW Marriott Santa Fe if you want a genuinely well-equipped five-star for a sixth of the price. Both rate highly with guests, but they sit 11.3 km apart in different parts of the city, so pick based on where you actually need to be. The St. Regis has a hot tub and takes pets, which the JW Marriott doesn't offer, but the Marriott still has its own pool, steam room and spa. On pure numbers the Marriott is the sharper deal; on pure atmosphere the St. Regis is the more memorable place to sit still in.

The look and the feel

The St. Regis Mexico City

The St. Regis sits on Paseo de la Reforma, the grand boulevard laid out under Maximilian and lined with the kind of Beaux-Arts and modernist towers that give Mexico City its formal spine. Inside, the house style is St. Regis orthodoxy: dark wood panelling, brass fittings, heavy drapery, a lobby built for a butler in a morning coat to intercept you before you reach the desk. The rooms lean sober and tailored rather than playful, marble bathrooms, muted palettes, floor-to-ceiling windows looking down over the traffic and jacaranda trees. It draws a business and old-money leisure crowd who want the boulevard address and the ritual of the brand more than a design statement.

Right for travellers who want the Reforma address, butler service and the ceremony of an old-guard luxury brand, and who don't mind paying for it.

JW Marriott Hotel Mexico City Santa Fe

The JW Marriott Santa Fe sits in Mexico City's western business district, a newer, glassier part of town built up around corporate campuses rather than colonial or Porfirian streets. The listing describes a fairly standard contemporary five-star interior, marble bathrooms, flat-screen TVs, an outdoor pool and fitness club, which reads as clean and functional rather than characterful. It is the kind of hotel built for people passing through on business, with a steam room and spa thrown in so the stay doesn't feel purely transactional.

Right for travellers who want a well-equipped five-star base near Santa Fe's offices at a fraction of the cost and don't need a landmark address.

The JW Marriott has no hot tub and doesn't take pets, the two things the St. Regis offers that it doesn't; everything else, pool, spa, restaurants, gym, it matches.

The St. Regis is the more beautiful place to actually sit in, its Reforma address and butler-era formality giving it a sense of occasion the Santa Fe business hotel, competent as it is, was never built to have.

“Amazing luxurious stay!”

What a wonderful stay! We were upgraded to a beautiful suite room 1001. We also used their airport transportation and Roberto was excellent but so was the other driver. When we arrived the bellmen promptly assisted us with our luggage and we were checkin. We were excited to have seen the nice upgrade (am Ambassador) and they acknowledged my status. The whole stay was magical. The King Cole Bar is a wonderful space

“Treated Like Genuinely Welcomed Guests”

The St. Regis Mexico City is an outstanding hotel, and we can't recommend it highly enough. From the moment we arrived, we were treated like genuinely welcomed guests. That began at check-in, where the team took real care with our room selection, and it continued throughout our stay — there was always someone asking whether there was anything they could do to make our visit more enjoyable. That kind of consistent, at

“Impeccable rooms, perfect service”

The St Regis has the best service of any hotel in Mexico City. The rooms are impeccable, and the security is top notch. The terrace of the restaurant is lovely for a relaxed brunch any day (or every day) of the week. Special thanks to Iliana at the front desk for her outstanding hospitality and kindness.

“Good over all experience.”

The location, the bed, the place.

Customer service was more a "want to" than a hotel ingrained value. When asking for an early (30 min) early check in, the response over the phone was a short clear "no". When asking for coffee cups in the room, the response was far from "we'll send them". Need to ask, why are there no coffee cups in the room? Just p
