Both sit within the same 0.6km stretch of the V&A Waterfront, so location isn't the deciding factor here. The Silo is smaller, more expensive at $2,179 a night, and has a rooftop the One&Only lacks; the One&Only is $1,458, more established with 674 reviews to the Silo's 107, and adds pet-friendly rooms and golf access. If budget matters at all, the One&Only gives up almost nothing on paper for $721 less a night. Book the Silo for the building itself; book the One&Only for the wider offering.
The Silo occupies a converted 1920s grain silo, gutted and reworked by Thomas Heatherwick, whose signature is the faceted, bulging glass windows punched into the old concrete like blown bubbles. Inside, the Zeitz MOCAA museum shares the base of the building, and the hotel rises above it with rooms that feel more like private galleries than bedrooms, curved plaster walls, warm timber, and framed harbour or mountain views through those distinctive convex windows. The rooftop bar and pool sit atop the old silo structure, glass-walled, with Table Mountain on one side and the working harbour on the other. It draws design pilgrims and people who want to say they slept inside a piece of industrial history.
Design-minded travellers and couples who want a smaller, architecturally distinct stay with a standout rooftop.
One&Only Cape Town is a large, purpose-built resort from the mid-2000s, spread across a private island and a mainland wing linked by a footbridge over the marina. The interiors lean toward polished stone, dark wood and neutral linen rather than any strong architectural statement, with private balconies looking onto Table Mountain or the yachts docked below. It has the scale of a full resort: a spa building, a supervised kids' club, a movie lounge, multiple restaurants, which makes it feel less like a singular design object and more like a self-contained holiday complex.
Families and larger groups who want resort-scale facilities, kids' programming and a lower nightly rate.
At $1,458 versus $2,179, the One&Only lacks a rooftop entirely, its outdoor spaces are ground-level and marina-facing rather than elevated with mountain and harbour views.
The Silo is the more beautiful and singular building to actually be inside, Heatherwick's silo conversion has no real equivalent, while the One&Only is a well-run resort rather than a piece of architecture.

“The fantastic views and amazing staff!!!”
“The only downside was the soundproofing in the room.”
Silo guests come away happier, as their reviews report no real complaints, while One&Only guests, though impressed by staff and location, repeatedly note price and room-comfort niggles.

“An exceptional stay with phenomenal staff and wonderful facilities”
We had an amazing stay at One&Only Cape Town. The facilities were excellent, but what really stood out was the staff. Everyone was phenomenal, incredibly attentive, caring, and welcoming throughout our stay. The view of Table Mountain was exquisite, and the location is very safe and secure. The property itself has so much to offer, and I would actually recommend staying here when you have enough time to enjoy the ho
The only downside was the soundproofing in the room. We could hear quite a bit of noise from outside, which affected my sleep a little. Other than that, everything about our stay was wonderful.

“Beautiful property with wonderful facilities and friendly, attentive staff”
Beautiful property very well located in V&A Waterfront
Two minor issues - no tissues beside the bed or anywhere in the bedroom and the length of time for hot water. In a water scarce location, having to run the tap or shower for quite some time before the water is hot is not good
