The honest take
Book the InterContinental if you want a well-run, well-liked hotel near St Charles Avenue and the French Quarter for $160 a night with a 9.0 rating from over two thousand reviewers. Book the Roosevelt if the Blue Room, the block-long lobby and a spa and hot tub are worth $386 a night and a slightly lower guest score. Both sit within half a kilometre of each other in the same downtown pocket, so location is nearly a wash. The Roosevelt is the more theatrical building; the InterContinental is the better value on the numbers.
The look and the feel
The Roosevelt Hotel New Orleans
The Roosevelt occupies the old Fairmont, and the lobby is one of the great American hotel spaces: a football-field length of gold leaf, marble columns and crystal chandeliers, with the Sazerac cocktail said to have been invented in its bar. The Blue Room has hosted live jazz and big-band broadcasts for the better part of a century, and Domenica downstairs is Besh-family Italian with terrazzo floors and an open kitchen. Rooms lean traditional New Orleans grand hotel: upholstered headboards, dark wood furniture, brass fixtures, the kind of solidity that photographs well but can feel a touch formal. It draws couples marking an occasion, conference guests who want the address, and people who want to say they had a drink under that ceiling.
Guests who want the Roosevelt's history, the Blue Room and a proper spa day, and are willing to pay for it.
InterContinental New Orleans by IHG
The InterContinental is a 1980s high-rise on St Charles Avenue, the streetcar line running past the door, so the architecture is corporate rather than characterful, but the position is hard to beat for walking to Harrah's, the Quarter and the CBD. Public rooms are contemporary hotel-standard: neutral tones, glass, an outdoor pool deck that gets used hard in summer. Veranda restaurant and SoifFaim bar do the work without trying to be a destination in themselves. It suits business travellers, streetcar sightseers and anyone who wants a reliable four-star base without paying for a lobby they'll only pass through twice a day.
Travellers who want a well-located, well-reviewed base on St Charles Avenue without paying for architectural theatre.
At $160 the InterContinental gives up the Roosevelt's spa and hot tub entirely; everything else, from pool to gym to dining, it matches or exceeds on review count.
The Roosevelt is the more beautiful building by a wide margin, its lobby doing something no 1980s tower on St Charles Avenue is built to do.

I don't know what happened with my Christmastime 2025 review, but it never showed up. My husband and I come in to New Orleans a lot from The Mississippi Gulfcoast. My husband is a graduate of Brother Martin H.S., and lived in NOLA so we stay for many functions. He surprised me and booked us at The Roosevelt Christmas 2025. When the doors were thrust open, immediately knew it was going to be quite a magical experience

“Exceptional Stay with One Dining Disappointment”
Our experience at the Roosevelt Hotel was outstanding from the moment we arrived until the moment we reluctantly left. Every staff member treated us with warmth and professionalism, especially Stephen, one of the bellmen, who went above and beyond throughout our stay. He was always courteous, made sure my family never ran out of water, and recommended several restaurants, including Domenica.

“Great Getaway to the Roosevelt Hotel”
We just got back from a one night getaway to the beautiful Roosevelt Hotel in New Orleans. The lobby was beautiful, and I had a ball as a history teacher exploring the historical architecture and pieces they had throughout the hotel. The staff were all very friendly, and went above and beyond to make sure all of our needs were met. We stayed in a Luxury King Suite, and it was beyond our expectation. The beds were ex

“Good location, comfortable but I’d definitely bring ear plugs”
The hotel is very well located in the CBD of NOLA, the rooms are spacious and comfortable.
I must comment that none of us got a good nights sleep, the noise from the streetcar is not terrible but noticeable but the biggest issue was numerous other guests returning from a night on the town who caused significant noise and disturbance throughout each night.
The bathrooms could do with some significant upgrad
