The honest take
The Ritz-Carlton sits at $610 a night with a 9.1 rating from 507 reviews; the Four Seasons is $746 with a 9.3 from 404 reviews. Both are on Canal Street, less than a kilometre apart, so location is essentially a wash. The Ritz-Carlton has a hot tub the Four Seasons lacks, the Four Seasons has golf the Ritz-Carlton lacks. For most travellers weighing price against a marginal rating bump, the Ritz-Carlton is the better booking.
The look and the feel
The Ritz-Carlton
The Ritz-Carlton occupies the old Maison Blanche department store building on Canal Street, a Beaux-Arts structure from 1908 with a domed corner and a lobby that keeps some of that civic grandeur, columns, chandeliers, dark wood panelling. The Davenport Lounge downstairs runs live jazz most nights, which fits New Orleans in a way generic hotel bars don't, and M bistro leans into Cajun and Caribbean flavours rather than playing it safe. The 25,000-square-foot spa is a real amenity, not a marketing line. It draws a guest who wants French Quarter proximity with the reassurance of a big brand behind the door.
Travellers who want jazz, Cajun food and a sense of old New Orleans built into the hotel itself.
Four Seasons New Orleans
The Four Seasons New Orleans opened in the old World Trade Center tower at the foot of Canal Street, a 1960s modernist high-rise redone with river views and a much cleaner, more contemporary interior than its neighbour, glass, pale stone, unfussy lines. The about text is heavy on the practical, business centre, fax machine, ATM, concierge, which suggests a hotel built around smooth service rather than atmosphere for its own sake. It suits a guest who wants efficiency, skyline and river outlook, and the Four Seasons name, over historic texture.
Guests prioritising river views, brand consistency and business-trip convenience over local flavour.
At the lower price, the Ritz-Carlton gives up the golf access listed at the Four Seasons, though it counters with its own hot tub the Four Seasons doesn't have.
The Ritz-Carlton's Beaux-Arts shell and jazz lounge make it the more characterful place to sit and have a drink; the Four Seasons is sleeker but generic by comparison.

The location was excellent. Very central and all the main areas were walking distance.
