Book Hotel Eden if you want to be in central Rome near Via Veneto with a rooftop restaurant and terrace, and can pay the premium. Book Rome Cavalieri if you want a hilltop resort with a pool, spa, tennis courts, and Rome's only three-Michelin-star dining, for considerably less per night despite being 5 stars too. They sit 3.7km apart, in different registers entirely: one is a city hotel, the other is a self-contained estate above the city. At $804 versus $1384 a night, the Cavalieri is also the better-reviewed value on volume, though Eden edges it slightly on guest rating from a much smaller sample.
The look and the feel

The Cavalieri sits on Monte Mario above Rome, a 1960s hilltop hotel with the scale and detachment of a resort rather than a city address. The Eden occupies a quieter, older register: a Dorchester Collection property near Via Veneto, all classic Italian furnishings, damask, gilt frames, the sort of interior that has not chased trends. La Terrazza on the top floor opens onto a genuine panorama over the city's rooftops and domes, and Il Giardino gives a second, calmer dining room downstairs. The rooms are traditional rather than showy, city views rather than sweeping ones. It has a small, discreet guest count for a five-star, which shows in the tight, high review score from relatively few reviewers.
People who want to be within walking distance of the Spanish Steps and Via Veneto in a smaller, quieter, classically furnished hotel.

“how mean spirited of management (or not to give us a nicer room, given low occupancy and renovations”

the hotel was 25% occupied yet we were given a room overlooking the car park and a huge mobile phone tower, not overlooking the pools and gardens yet charged over $500! the renovations were not mentioned at time of booking

“Best Hotel in Rome”
This was our favourite hotel during our trip to Italy. Everything was perfect, the staff, the room, the food and quite possibly the best hotel gym we have ever seen. We upgraded our room and recommend using the imperial lounge.
Was quite expensive to park, but you can just leave it on the road.

The hotel exceeded all expectations. The staff were incredibly professional, friendly, and attentive throughout our stay. The room was elegant, spotless, and very comfortable. The location is excellent, offering beautiful views and easy access to the city’s main attractions. The breakfast was outstanding, and every detail reflected the high standards of a luxury hotel.
Honestly, there was very little to dislike. If I had to mention something, the stay was too short to fully enjoy all the hotel’s facilities.
