We have been coming to this hotel for many years, and we absolutely love the service and the staff. However, this time the room was very dirty. There was visible dust and dirty carpet. We have brought it to the attention of the front desk and hope they deep clean the rooms.

Book the Hassler if the Spanish Steps location and that rooftop are what you're paying for; it's $152 more a night but sits at the top of one of Rome's great set pieces. Book Six Senses if you want a slightly newer, wellness-driven property near Piazza Venezia at a lower rate, with pet and parking options the Hassler doesn't list. Both sit at 5 stars with strong guest ratings, so the choice comes down to neighbourhood and what you want from the stay rather than quality.
Hassler Roma
The Hassler has occupied the top of the Spanish Steps since 1885, and it plays that position for everything it's worth: the lobby is all marble floors, gilt mirrors and old-school Roman hospitality, the kind of hotel where the doorman knows regulars by name. Imàgo restaurant on the top floor looks straight across the rooftops to St Peter's, which is the real draw here along with the address itself. Rooms lean traditional Italian grand hotel rather than fashionable, with damask fabrics and dark wood, and the crowd is old-money European and well-heeled Americans who want the view and the pedigree, not a scene.
Guests who want the Spanish Steps address, a storied grand hotel, and a rooftop view over the city.
Six Senses Rome
Six Senses Rome opened inside a former insurance company palazzo near Piazza Venezia, and the brand's usual wellness focus shows up as a spa with sauna, a terrace, and rooms with kitchenettes for longer stays. The description leans on modern comfort rather than period grandeur, air-conditioning, flat-screens, coffee machines, the practical language of a design hotel rather than a historic one. It sits closer to the ruins and the forums than to the Spanish Steps, putting it in the older civic heart of Rome rather than the shopping streets above it.
Guests who want a wellness-oriented five-star nearer the ancient centre, with pet-friendly and parking options, at a lower nightly rate.
Six Senses saves you $152 a night but has no listed rooftop, so you lose the elevated view over Rome that defines the Hassler's top floor.
The Hassler is the more beautiful place to simply be, because its position over the Spanish Steps and its 19th-century grand-hotel interiors give it a sense of occasion that a newer, amenity-driven property can't quite manufacture.

Location
From the very beginning, I would strongly advise guests not to rely on the prices shown on Booking.com for this hotel, as the rates are extremely overpriced compared with the actual quality of the stay and service. The bed was very uncomfortable, and there were constant disturbing noises that made it extremely difficu
“Such a Great Hotel”
The style of this hotel is beautiful, and the staff are amazing. Everyone was so friendly and welcoming. The location is perfect as well. Overall, it was a wonderful experience, and I really enjoyed my stay
The only downside was the limited variety of food options on the Bivium restaurant menu. I would have appreciated having more choices available.
“Best hotel in Rome for that level”
