The honest take

At $386 versus $746 a night, the Roosevelt Hotel is the better value by a wide margin, and it has the more storied interiors of the two. The Four Seasons, on the site of the old World Trade Center at the foot of Canal Street, offers a hot tub and a more contemporary, higher-floor river view, plus a marginally higher guest rating (9.3 vs 8.9) though with far fewer reviews. Book the Roosevelt if you want to be in the middle of the French Quarter action and save real money; book the Four Seasons if you want quiet, modern polish and don't mind paying double.

The look and the feel

Four Seasons New Orleans

The Four Seasons occupies a glass tower at the foot of Canal Street, formerly the World Trade Center, redeveloped with a slick, contemporary interior of pale stone, brass accents and floor-to-ceiling windows that frame the Mississippi. It's a modern insertion into an old riverfront site rather than a historic building itself, so the mood is calm, corporate-luxury, all clean lines and hush rather than any particular New Orleans character. The public rooms are built for business travellers and destination-wedding guests who want efficiency and a view, not creaking floorboards.

Best for guests who want a modern, quiet, high-end stay with river views and don't need to be immersed in old New Orleans atmosphere.

The Roosevelt Hotel New Orleans

The Roosevelt is the real theatrical set piece here: a 1893 Beaux-Arts hotel with a two-block-long lobby, the Sazerac Bar with its Paul Ninas murals, and the Blue Room where big bands and now jazz acts have played for decades. Gold leaf, marble columns, chandeliers marching down that vast corridor, terrazzo floors worn smooth by a century of foot traffic — it's grand in the old New Orleans hotel manner, unapologetically ornate rather than restrained. Domenica downstairs and the rooftop pool add contemporary layers onto a building that still feels like it belongs to Huey Long's era.

Best for guests who want to stay inside a piece of New Orleans history, near the Quarter, with live jazz and grand public rooms as part of the experience.

Booking the Roosevelt over the Four Seasons means giving up the hot tub, the only amenity the pricier hotel has that the Roosevelt's list doesn't mention.

The Roosevelt is the more beautiful and characterful place to actually stand in, with its gilded block-long lobby and murals doing more for the senses than the Four Seasons' polished modern glass box.

“Magic at CHRISTMASTIME! Lovely, year round!”

I don't know what happened with my Christmastime 2025 review, but it never showed up. My husband and I come in to New Orleans a lot from The Mississippi Gulfcoast. My husband is a graduate of Brother Martin H.S., and lived in NOLA so we stay for many functions. He surprised me and booked us at The Roosevelt Christmas 2025. When the doors were thrust open, immediately knew it was going to be quite a magical experience

“Exceptional Stay with One Dining Disappointment”

Our experience at the Roosevelt Hotel was outstanding from the moment we arrived until the moment we reluctantly left. Every staff member treated us with warmth and professionalism, especially Stephen, one of the bellmen, who went above and beyond throughout our stay. He was always courteous, made sure my family never ran out of water, and recommended several restaurants, including Domenica. Unfortunately, Domenica

“Great Getaway to the Roosevelt Hotel”

We just got back from a one night getaway to the beautiful Roosevelt Hotel in New Orleans. The lobby was beautiful, and I had a ball as a history teacher exploring the historical architecture and pieces they had throughout the hotel. The staff were all very friendly, and went above and beyond to make sure all of our needs were met. We stayed in a Luxury King Suite, and it was beyond our expectation. The beds were ex
