Priced on the same night, 2026-10-10: The Madrid EDITION is $1,115 a night less. They are 2.0 km apart.

The Madrid EDITION is the sharper booking: $1,095 a night against $1,980, with a pool, rooftop and garden the Villa Magna doesn't have, and nearly four times the review volume backing up its 9.0. Rosewood Villa Magna wins on rating (9.5) and on address, sitting in Salamanca rather than the dead centre, and it has a hot tub the EDITION lacks. If budget matters, book EDITION; if you want the more serene, old-money Madrid experience and the price is not the point, book Villa Magna.
Villa Magna occupies a 1970s block on the Castellana that Rosewood gutted and reclad in a soft, antique-adjacent register: marble bathrooms, gilt-edged furniture, heavy curtains, the kind of hush that comes from thick carpet and old money rather than minimalism. Rooms look over Serrano or the Castellana itself, Madrid's grand boulevard of embassies and banks. The public rooms favour dark wood, brass fittings and low lighting, aimed at a guest who wants discretion and formality rather than spectacle. Sense Spa sits underneath it all, windowless and calm, the antidote to the traffic outside.
Guests who want a quiet, formal five-star base in a residential embassy district, away from the tourist churn.
The Madrid EDITION, designed under Ian Schrager's template with local architectural firm input, occupies a former bank headquarters near Puerta del Sol, and it plays the contrast between that stern stone shell and a looser, more theatrical interior: dark timber, brass, low pools of lamplight, a garden courtyard hidden behind the facade. The rooftop is the reason people book it, a bar and pool looking over the tiled roofs of central Madrid, busy and photographed at golden hour. It draws a younger, design-conscious, nightlife-adjacent crowd rather than the diplomats and old families who fill Villa Magna's lobby.
Guests who want to be in the thick of central Madrid, with a rooftop scene and pool as part of the stay itself.
At $1,095 EDITION gives up nothing on paper except the hot tub Villa Magna offers, but the more meaningful trade is address and hush: it sits on the noisy, tourist-dense Sol side rather than Salamanca's calmer streets.
The EDITION is the more striking building to be inside, because the tension between its severe bank facade and the theatrical, brass-and-timber interior gives it a charge that Villa Magna's tasteful, restrained luxury doesn't try for.

“Great location with larger than average rooms.”
“It was a level of genuine care and hospitality that we will always remember.”
Rosewood Villa Magna guests come away happier overall, praising the location and rooms consistently, while The Madrid EDITION has one very positive standout but also a notably poor experience over deposit handling.

“Great Hotel!”
Great location with larger than average rooms. Hotel is very non-descript from the outside but luxurious on the inside. They have a house-car for certain hours that you can get rides in. Very close to shopping & Retiro Park
“Exceptional Compassion and Service — Thank You, Lina”
I am incredibly grateful to The Madrid EDITION, and especially to Lina, for the kindness, understanding, and compassion shown to me when I was unexpectedly unable to travel to Madrid. Having to cancel a much-anticipated trip was already very disappointing, but the way Lina handled our situation made such a difference. She listened, understood the circumstances, and kindly assisted with refunding our stay. It was a
