The honest take
At $542 vs $539 a night this is essentially a tie on price, so it comes down to what you want from the stay. One&Only Royal Mirage has the higher guest rating (9.4 vs 9.2) and a golf facility the Ritz lacks, plus the more atmospheric Arabian-palace architecture. The Ritz-Carlton counters with more pools (6 vs 4) and one more restaurant, and sits directly on Jumeirah Beach Walk with easy access to JBR's restaurants and shops. Either is a legitimate five-star Dubai beach stay; the choice is architecture and mood versus sheer facility count and walkable surroundings.
The look and the feel
One&Only Royal Mirage
Royal Mirage is built as a fantasy of old Arabia: low-rise sandstone-coloured pavilions, wind-tower silhouettes, carved wooden doors, mashrabiya screens filtering the light, and courtyards planted with palms and bougainvillea that muffle the traffic noise from Sheikh Zayed Road. The three connected sections (Palace, Arabian Court, Residence & Spa) are linked by manicured gardens and winding paths rather than a single tower, so nothing feels stacked or corporate. Fountains, mosaic tiling and lantern-lit walkways at night give it a hushed, resort-within-a-resort feel that draws couples, honeymooners and families wanting seclusion over skyline views.
Couples and families wanting a self-contained, garden-and-courtyard resort feel, away from the city's bustle.
The Ritz-Carlton
The Ritz-Carlton on Jumeirah Beach Walk reads as a more conventional grand hotel: a cream, colonnaded low-rise building set right on the promenade, with a lobby of marble floors, chandeliers and formal flower arrangements rather than the Arabian theming of its neighbour. Its position on the Walk means guests step straight out into JBR's cafes, shops and the buzz of The Beach mall, a livelier and more urban setting than the Royal Mirage's private compound. It suits guests who want beach resort comfort but also want to walk to dinner or nightlife without a taxi.
Travellers who want beach hotel comfort but also easy walking access to JBR's restaurants, shops and street life.
The Royal Mirage gives up two outdoor pools and one restaurant compared with the Ritz, and doesn't sit on a walkable promenade the way the Ritz does, though it counters with a golf facility the Ritz lacks.
The Royal Mirage is the more beautiful place to actually be in, since its low-rise Arabian courtyards, wind towers and lantern-lit gardens create a sense of place the Ritz's more generic grand-hotel lobby doesn't match.

What guests actually say
One&Only Royal Mirage
professional, caring staff
excellent food and restaurants
beautiful grounds and pools
overbooking and dishonest front desk
The Ritz-Carlton
accommodating, friendly staff
clean, spacious rooms
perfect pools and grounds
beach renovation not disclosed beforehand
Ritz-Carlton guests come away happier overall, as most reviews report consistently excellent service and comfort with only one guest citing an undisclosed renovation, whereas One&Only guests report a genuine pattern of front-desk dishonesty over overbooking.

My friend and I needed a place to decompress, given the situation we are in, as well as his own health challenges.
I had a totally different choice but he convinced me to join him at the One & Only Royal Mirage due to its prestige as one of the OGs of Dubai's upscale hotel brands.
We were given a notification that we could check in before noon so we aimed to be there at 11:00am. However, our room was not ready so

“One of the best hotels that I have stayed in Dubai. Amazing and 7 start experience”
Amazing resort. Location, cleanliness, views, services, professionalism, quality of food...ALL Amazing and second to none. Absolutely brilliant. Thank you for your hospitality

“Far better options at this price point.”
Super courteous when the hotel was empty. Restaurant and pool staff remained very friendly and efficient as they could be as things got busier.
Clearly the hotel had been overbooked as we were hounded by constant calls from the front desk trying to make us check out early, despite having agreed a late check out when we checked in. Front desk then denied ever having made the agreement. Even the promised pool pass, off
This is a tricky review. I stayed at the Ritz-Carlton from 19-24th Sept 2025. On arrival I was told there was renovation work on the beach by the Dubai Government and it was short notice. That may be true but I’m certain they had enough notice to inform me ahead of time but I suspect they didn’t because they knew it would be off-putting so they waited until I arrived. I heard them telling the same thing to guests che
