The honest take

At $381 vs $374 the two are near enough tied on price, so the decision comes down to what kind of Las Vegas you want. Fontainebleau sits on the Strip itself, rated 9 from nearly 4,800 reviews, with a casino, rooftop and the full Strip spectacle on the doorstep. JW Marriott is 12.7km away in Summerlin, quieter, spa-led, with breakfast, hot tub and golf included, rated 8.3 from a much smaller review base. Book Fontainebleau for the Strip and the building itself, book JW Marriott for a resort that isn't trying to be a casino.

The look and the feel

Fontainebleau Las Vegas, MICHELIN Key Award Hotel

Fontainebleau's Vegas outpost borrows its name and its curved glass silhouette from the Miami original, and the interiors lean into the same mid-century glamour reworked for scale: soaring atrium ceilings, dark terrazzo, brass fittings, a lobby that keeps moving because the casino floor is never far off. It's a Strip hotel through and through, built to funnel you past gaming tables, past a run of restaurants and a rooftop pool deck, with the Convention Center and Stratosphere visible from the windows. The crowd is convention-goers, nightlife regulars and people who came to be near the action, not away from it.

Best for guests who want to be inside the Strip's energy, with casino, nightlife and a rooftop scene on site.

JW Marriott Las Vegas Resort & Spa

JW Marriott Las Vegas Resort & Spa is a low-rise resort compound in Summerlin, away from Strip noise, built around the Aquae Sulis Spa's 36 treatment rooms and an 11,000-square-foot pool with a waterfall. The public spaces read as suburban-resort rather than Strip-glamour: courtyards, volleyball courts, a golf course attached, eight restaurants spread across the property rather than stacked into one casino floor. It suits a guest who wants space and a slower pace over spectacle.

Best for guests prioritising spa, pool and golf in a calmer setting away from the Strip.

JW Marriott has no rooftop to match Fontainebleau's, while Fontainebleau's listing shows no breakfast, hot tub or golf, so each gives up a distinct set of amenities rather than one being simply less equipped.

Fontainebleau is the more striking building and the more memorable place to stand in, its scale and Strip-facing glass doing real architectural work that a suburban resort compound can't match.

“I would stay here again.”

The hotel was beautiful, the room was well appointed and comfortable.

My only complaint was that this is Vegas. We got there at 9pm and by the time we got checked in and were ready for dinner, all restaurants were closed except for the grab and go one.

“Very rude stuff that doesn’t solve any issues you might have”

The property is new. So it was clean and smelled good. But there were a couple of things that spoiled all the impression.

The pool didn’t have enough shade. Water in the pool was too cold. Even with extreme heat outside the difference in temperatures was unbearable. Stuff is very rude. It takes an out for them to answer your request. They talk to you in a dismissive and disrespectful manner. We had 50$ credit for the food. They didn’t e

“Unacceptable Housekeeping Standards”

Room **** was not cleaned to an acceptable standard and was not suitable for occupancy upon arrival. The issues observed included: Long black hairs in the shower, attached to what appeared to be a hardened substance near the shower exit. Hair in the bathroom sink. Dirt and stains in and around the bathtub. Heavy dust buildup around all light fixtures, particularly the bedside lights. Carpet that had not been thorough

“Five Star Stay!”

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay! The staff was extremely attentive, professional, and friendly. We were greeted by name each time we arrived and departed from the hotel. The valet staff Paul, and Sam, are five star employees and go over and beyond for their guests. Kevin in The Earl Grey Cafe was excellent also!
