The honest take
Book The Peninsula Bangkok unless you specifically want the Ritz-Carlton's quieter, more boutique feel and don't mind paying more for it. The Peninsula is cheaper at $365 against $407, comes with breakfast, a hot tub and a bar the Ritz-Carlton doesn't list, and has 1,404 reviews behind its 9.3 score versus the Ritz-Carlton's 29 behind a 9.8. That review gap matters: the Ritz-Carlton's near-perfect score is thinly tested, while the Peninsula's is proven at scale on the river.
The look and the feel
The Ritz-Carlton
This is the Ritz-Carlton on Wireless Road, in the Lumpini embassy district, a tower hotel built for the diplomatic and corporate crowd who want quiet over spectacle. Expect the house style of the brand worldwide: heavy fabrics, chandeliers, a lobby pitched somewhere between hotel and private club, lots of marble and gilt trim rather than local material. Lily's restaurant and the poolside bar suggest a menu of international comfort rather than anything experimental. With only 29 reviews on file it reads as a smaller, more discreet operation than its neighbour, the kind of place where staff learn your name by the second night.
Guests who want a quiet, low-volume five-star base near the embassies and business district, and don't need a river view.
The Peninsula Bangkok
The Peninsula sits across the Chao Phraya in Klongsan, reached by the hotel's own river boats, which changes the whole logic of a stay here: you are not in the CBD, you are on the water, watching Bangkok's temples and barges from your balcony. The brand is known worldwide for a particular kind of colonial-revival luxury, dark wood, brass fittings, orchids, big windows built around the view rather than against it, and this property leans hard into the riverfront setting the listing describes. With over 1,400 reviews it is a working, busy grand hotel rather than an intimate one, and the extra dining and spa options back that up.
Guests who want the Chao Phraya on their doorstep, more dining and wellness options, and don't mind the boat commute into the old city centre.
The Ritz-Carlton, for its higher price, doesn't list breakfast, a hot tub or a bar, all of which the Peninsula includes at a lower rate, so the extra cost there is buying location and scale of service rather than amenities.
The Peninsula is the more beautiful place to actually sit and look out from, because the river does the work no interior designer can fake, while the Ritz-Carlton's appeal is more about polish and privacy than view or atmosphere.

Our stay at this hotel was simply outstanding. Even though the property already holds an almost perfect ranking, both the hotel itself and especially the Club Lounge staff managed to exceed all expectations.
The facilities were modern, spotlessly clean, and maintained to the highest standard. The atmosphere struck a wonderful balance - relaxed yet refined, making it easy to feel both comfortable and included.
