Island Shangri-La comes in at $489 a night with a 9.6 guest rating from 946 reviews, against the Landmark Mandarin Oriental at $762 with a 9.4 rating from only 50 reviews. Neither listing shows the other lacking a facility, so the price gap of over $270 a night buys location and design flavour rather than amenities. The Shangri-La is the sharper booking on the numbers alone; the Landmark wins on intimacy and design pedigree if money is not the deciding factor.
The Landmark Mandarin Oriental
The Landmark Mandarin Oriental sits inside the Landmark shopping complex in Central, and its interiors, done under the Mandarin Oriental's contemporary Asian-luxury house style, favour dark wood, brass fittings and low, cocoon-like lighting rather than the brand's older colonial chintz. Rooms are large by Hong Kong standards, with freestanding tubs and a sense of hush against the roar of Queen's Road outside. The spa and the Amber restaurant, all angular gold ceiling and French plates, set the tone: this is a hotel for people who want five-star discretion metres from Lan Kwai Fong's noise. It's a small, dense property, only 111 rooms, so the public spaces feel more like a private club than a grand hotel lobby.
Travellers who want a compact, design-forward hideaway within walking distance of Central's bars and shopping.
Island Shangri-La
Island Shangri-La is a tower hotel plugged directly into Pacific Place and Admiralty MTR, and the scale shows the moment you walk in, an atrium lobby beneath a vast Chinese landscape painting, all marble and gold and genuinely grand rather than boutique-cosy. Guestrooms were redone by Tristan Auer, whose work brings in soft Parisian tailoring, warm timber, day beds and bespoke pantries laid over an Asian sense of proportion, so the rooms feel calmer and less corporate than the tower exterior suggests. The Horizon Club lounge and the sheer size of the operation, 946 reviews' worth of guests passing through, give it the feel of a serious business and leisure hotel rather than a hideaway.
Travellers who want harbour-side scale, direct mall and metro access, and Tristan Auer's calmer room design at a lower nightly rate.
On the facility lists neither hotel is shown giving anything up; the real trade-off is the Landmark's smaller, more intimate scale and Central address against the Shangri-La's tower size and Admiralty location, which for some guests means less atmosphere but far easier onward transport.
The Landmark Mandarin Oriental is the more atmospheric room to sit in, its low-lit, brass-and-wood interiors built for lingering, while the Island Shangri-La is the more impressive one to arrive in, thanks to that atrium and Auer's newer room work.

Island Shangri-La
“Overall it was a pleasant experience. Rooms were a nice size and clean, beds were comfortable. Location of the hotel was”
Clean, great location right in pacific place which is a very short walk to admiralty MTR station , very helpful staff
The location of the lobby is a tad inconvenient when coming from the MTR - have to take lifts within pacific place mall up to level 5 then take another escalator/lift up to level 6 where the lobby is. Also the bathroom was slightly old, bath tub and shower curtain kind instead of an isolated shower cubicle so water goe
“Exceptional”
The hotel is magnificent and the staff is very professional. Exactly what to expect from a 5 star hotel! Very nice
Nothing
A really nice hotel with everything you need. Like the location in Central and easy to get about. The staff were really helpful and a string quartet in the lobby was a classy touch!
