Book Le Bristol Paris if budget allows: it is the more storied and complete palace hotel, with a rooftop pool, spa and three restaurants, and its 9.6 rating from a tighter set of reviews backs that up. Prince de Galles, 1.1km away near the Champs-Élysées, is $2,654 a night cheaper and still a genuine five-star Art Deco address with excellent service, just without the pool and spa complex. For most travellers wanting palace-level Paris without the very top price, Prince de Galles is the smarter booking.

Le Bristol occupies an 18th-century mansion on the rue du Faubourg Saint-Honoré, in the heart of the couture district, and it still feels like the private house it once was: boiseries, Aubusson tapestries, a formal French garden visible from the ground-floor rooms. The decorator Pierre-Yves Rochon oversaw much of the current interiors, layering silk, gilt and antique furniture without tipping into pastiche. The rooftop pool, shaped like the deck of an ocean liner with porthole windows, is the single most photographed detail and gives the hotel a slightly surreal, glamorous counterpoint to all the period wood. Epicure, its three-Michelin-star dining room, draws a formal, moneyed, often French crowd who know exactly what they are paying for.

“Upscale hotel with excellent customer service”
4 night stay in August. Excellent customer service, including at reception, concierge, and bellhop. We don't usually use concierge at hotels but they were extremely helpful in quickly arranging tickets for us to sold out tourist attractions. Small room but comfortable bed and clean bed. Only downside was not having my Marriot nightly upgrade award honored, even though the Marriott app showed availability in highe

“I guess it’s our first and last time there!”
I guess we are used to different kind of service in Paris. The location is good, the hotel offers reasonable rooms but overall service needs huge improvement. The concierge needs proper staffing, the reception needs proper staffing, the only place that has good staffing is the restaurant. The hotel as is the case with many hotels in Paris is quite old but the rooms relatively ok apart from the bathroom in the suite
