The honest take
Both sit within the same Pacific Place complex in Admiralty, 0.1km apart, so location is a wash. Island Shangri-La costs more ($493 vs $411) but rates notably higher with guests (9.6 vs 8.4) despite fewer reviews. Conrad has a hot tub the Shangri-La lacks, which matters if that's a priority. For most travellers the Shangri-La's guest satisfaction gap justifies the premium.
The look and the feel
Island Shangri-La
The atrium here is the thing people remember: a seventeen-storey void hung with the largest Chinese landscape painting in the world, silk-covered lift banks rising past it into a hush of grey marble and dark wood. Tristan Auer's refreshed rooms lean into Asian materiality without going full pastiche - lacquer tones, bespoke pantries, a daybed by the window that actually gets used. The Horizon Club lounge adds a layer of quiet exclusivity, and the whole building feels engineered for calm despite sitting directly over an MTR station and shopping mall.
Guests who want a genuinely striking piece of hotel architecture and are willing to pay for it.
Conrad Hong Kong
Conrad Hong Kong occupies the same Pacific Place tower cluster but plays a more conventional five-star hand: harbour and Peak views from glass-walled rooms, a roster of named restaurants (Nicholini's for Italian, Golden Leaf for Cantonese, Garden Cafe for buffet) rather than one atmospheric centrepiece. The public spaces read as solid international luxury - marble lobby, brass fittings, corporate polish - built for business travellers and conference groups rather than for lingering.
Business travellers and those who want harbour views, a hot tub, and dependable large-hotel dining without needing the building itself to be memorable.
At the lower price, Conrad gives up the Shangri-La's markedly higher guest satisfaction score and its more distinctive interior design, though it keeps a hot tub the Shangri-La doesn't offer.
Island Shangri-La is the more beautiful place to stand in, simply because of that atrium and the restraint of Auer's rooms against it.

Clean, great location right in pacific place which is a very short walk to admiralty MTR station , very helpful staff
The location of the lobby is a tad inconvenient when coming from the MTR - have to take lifts within pacific place mall up to level 5 then take another escalator/lift up to level 6 where the lobby is. Also the bathroom was slightly old, bath tub and shower curtain kind instead of an isolated shower cubicle so water goe
