The honest take

Both sit on Avenue George V, practically neighbours, but they are not the same night out. The Four Seasons George V is £3,315 against Prince de Galles' £1,416, roughly double, and for that you get a spa, health club, indoor pool and steam room that Prince de Galles doesn't list. If pool and spa culture matter, book the George V; if you want palace-adjacent Paris at a lower price with a strong Art Deco identity, Prince de Galles is the better use of money.

The look and the feel

Four Seasons Hotel George V

The George V occupies a 1928 building reworked by Pierre-Yves Rochon into a kind of gilded stage set: tapestries, museum-quality furniture, vast urns of flowers that get rebuilt weekly, marble corridors that seem to go on for streets. Le Cinq, the flagship restaurant, is all crystal and pale gold under a glass rotunda, formal to the point of theatre. The bar draws a hushed, moneyed crowd, more hotel guest than passer-by. It is grand in the old palace-hotel sense, designed to overwhelm gently.

Guests who want full palace-hotel infrastructure, spa and pool included, and are not counting the cost.

Prince de Galles

Prince de Galles is a 1928 Art Deco building too, but its recent restoration leaned into geometric mosaic floors, warm wood panelling and a mosaic-tiled courtyard bar that feels intimate rather than monumental. The 19.20 restaurant, run with Norbert Tarayre, has a looser, more contemporary energy than the classic French dining next door. Rooms lean on soft golds and greys with skyline glimpses rather than showpiece views. It reads as elegant and human-scaled where the George V reads as institutional grandeur.

Guests who want Art Deco character and a genuine Paris address without palace-level pricing.

Prince de Galles gives up the spa, health club, indoor pool and steam room that come with the George V, so anyone wanting an in-house wellness routine will need to look elsewhere.

The George V is more spectacular, but Prince de Galles is the more beautiful room to sit in, its Art Deco detailing feels considered and warm rather than assembled to impress.

“40th Anniversary Stay”

Absolutely wonderful experience celebrating our 40th Anniversary. Thank you to Anna from Guest Experiences for creating the most wonderful special surprise in our suite. The handwritten cards we will treasure forever and our grandchildren will adore the soft toys . Our dessert treats were incredible as was the never know Sparkling Tea from Copenhagen and the Champagne for us to have with our room service dinner. Our

“Absolutely exquisite”

It was my birthday today and my partner reserved a table at this exquisite hotel and the legendary Le Cinq restaurant. From the moment we arrived, we were treated like royalty, nothing was ever too much trouble for the staff. We had dinner at Le Cinq, the hotel’s three-Michelin-star restaurant, and it truly deserves every single star. The food was extraordinary, and the service absolutely sublime. Frank was exceptio

“Upscale hotel with excellent customer service”

4 night stay in August. Excellent customer service, including at reception, concierge, and bellhop. We don't usually use concierge at hotels but they were extremely helpful in quickly arranging tickets for us to sold out tourist attractions. Small room but comfortable bed and clean bed. Only downside was not having my Marriot nightly upgrade award honored, even though the Marriott app showed availability in highe

“I guess it’s our first and last time there!”

I guess we are used to different kind of service in Paris. The location is good, the hotel offers reasonable rooms but overall service needs huge improvement. The concierge needs proper staffing, the reception needs proper staffing, the only place that has good staffing is the restaurant. The hotel as is the case with many hotels in Paris is quite old but the rooms relatively ok apart from the bathroom in the suite
