Book the George V if you want the full palace-hotel apparatus: spa, pool, gym, Le Cinq, and a rate to match at $3,302 a night against $788. Book the Bourg Tibourg if you want a small, exquisitely decorated hotel in the Marais at roughly a quarter of the price, accepting no spa or pool. Both score very highly with guests; the George V's is built on 88 reviews of near-perfect luxury service, the Bourg Tibourg's on 65 reviews of romantic small-hotel charm. The 4.2km between them puts you in different Paris entirely: Golden Triangle grandeur versus Marais streets.
The George V occupies a 1928 building given its current character by Pierre-Yves Rochon, who filled it with 17th- and 18th-century antiques, Flemish tapestries, and vast, theatrical flower arrangements that change weekly and have become a signature. The lobby is marble and gilt, hushed and enormous, the kind of space where staff outnumber guests you can see. Le Cinq is a formal, chandeliered dining room under three Michelin stars, and the bar does the low-lit, old-money thing well. It draws a wealthy, often older or business clientele who want the full palace ritual, not surprise.
The George V suits guests who want palace-level service, a spa and pool, and fine dining under one roof, and can pay for it.
The Bourg Tibourg is one of Jacques Garcia's most celebrated small interiors, dense with Napoleon III reds and golds, tasselled lamps, dark wood, and gothic-revival touches packed into a narrow Marais townhouse. Rooms are famously tiny but treated like jewel boxes, heavy fabric, low light, mirrors that make the most of little space. The street outside is cobbled, close to Notre-Dame and the Louvre, full of small galleries and cafés rather than avenues. It suits people who want atmosphere and location over square footage or a battalion of staff.
The Bourg Tibourg suits guests who want a beautifully decorated, intimate hotel deep in the Marais and don't need a pool or gym.
At $788 against $3,302, the Bourg Tibourg gives up the spa, indoor pool, fitness centre and full bar/restaurant infrastructure that the George V has built its reputation on.
The Bourg Tibourg is the more seductive room to actually sit in, Garcia's velvet den beats any palace lobby for atmosphere, but the George V is the more spectacular building to walk through.

“we woke up at 3:00 am (jet lag) and discovered an ant infestation in the bathroom and in the vestibule”
Four Seasons guests come away happier overall, as reviews describe consistently exceptional, personalised luxury service, whereas Bourg Tibourg guests praise charm and location but note cramped rooms and one infestation incident.

“Absolutely exquisite”
It was my birthday today and my partner reserved a table at this exquisite hotel and the legendary Le Cinq restaurant. From the moment we arrived, we were treated like royalty, nothing was ever too much trouble for the staff. We had dinner at Le Cinq, the hotel’s three-Michelin-star restaurant, and it truly deserves every single star. The food was extraordinary, and the service absolutely sublime. Frank was exceptio
Fantastic location!
Insanely small rooms. We didn’t do a good job looking at the dimensions and we were shocked when we arrived. Even though we saw bigger rooms were available, staff claimed they were spoken for.
